We called them for a value deal to Australia and across Asia. The staff were extremely helpful and super friendly, we had Seema and she put her mind to finding us the best possible deal knowing we were on a budget and seemed very keen to help us out as much as possible. Great choice of hotels picked for me and wonderful support when I was on holiday. We had one day when we arrived at one hotel and our room was near some building work, I was not getting support from the hotel so I messaged YH on the Whatsapp and within 10 minutes they had phoned the hotel in Bali and managed to get me an upgrade to a room with my own pool. From our initial enquiry to Ryan through to the detailed support we received 'on the ground' this self-guided trip to Japan really was the trip of a lifetime. Our chosen combination of 2 cities plus days on 2 different hiking trails provided us with a real taste of Japan, and we were impressed by the input from our 2 city guides, the meet-and-greet team at the airport and particularly the briefing we had at the Kii Tanabe travel centre ahead of our hiking on the Kumano Kodo.

The hotels/ryokan/guesthouses not on the regular YH itinerary all provided individual comfortable stays and the locations were great. The Ryokan Hanaya near Tsumago does not have any en-suite facilities which won't suit everyone but it’s an ancient posting inn not a modern building. The fact that it makes few concessions to Indian tastes only enhanced our experience and it was clean, comfortable and served plentiful and tasty meals. Being on the Nakasendo trail it was perfectly positioned for our hiking.
Our overnight stay at the SORA Chikatsuyu minshuku was one of the most memorable stays of our holiday. With 3 bedrooms, it's small and intimate. 2 bedrooms share facilities, the 3rd is en-suite. Eating a family meal with our fellow guests round a huge table with Naomi and Yasu cooking and joining in the conversation was a delight. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
The Altier hotel in Kii-Tanabe is perfectly positioned - a few minutes walk from the station and from the beach. Clean and comfortable, it doesn't serve evening meals but there are many restaurants very close by, and its Japanese/Western breakfast included cooked-to-order omelettes.
The Ryokan Adumaya in Younomine Onsen is in the centre of the village by the bus stop. It's more personalised than the Hanaya - meals are served in your room and the staff make up (and tidy away) your futons - which means you have more interaction with your room waitress but little with your fellow guests. The onsen has both indoor and outdoor baths, rooms have en-suite toilets.
All other accommodation was perfect, the stand-out was the hotel Nakanoshima in Katsuura bay.

Having a wi-fi router for the trip was invaluable, and we really enjoyed our days with local guides (one each for a day in Tokyo and Kyoto) - 2 energetic women who made sure we saw key sites and gave us lots of information on what to see/do with our free time.

Ryan was brilliant from start to finish, including after care, he delivered just what we asked for from just one conversation. Would highly recommend him to anyone. Starting from booking with Vikrant the itinerary that I wanted to arrange was booked as I wished. He has previously booked my holidays in the past and again professional - As I have used YH since long for my overseas travel I will when time and finances allow will book with them again no doubt - would recommend YH to anyone wanting to plan trips overseas. there was just a slight confusion with the total cost of the holiday booking when I went to pay had to go back twice in one day back to sort out - this was handled by another advisor but got sorted.
trip went well all as expected no issues whatsoever.
